The alert level has been raised to maximum (4) for an imminent eruption of the Agung volcano in Indonesia.

Evacuations took place on Friday.

RUSSIAN VOLCANO ERUPTS

After lying dormant for about 250 years, Russia’s Kambalny volcano erupted last Friday, according to Live Science.

There were no preceding warning signs. “Nothing pointed to a possible eruption of the Kambalny,” said Olga Girina, who heads Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team. “It is a pure surprise for us.”

The Bogoslof volcano, located in the Aleutian Islands, erupted on Wednesday, sending an ash cloud about 31,000 feet into the air.

Volcanic Ash Snarls Europe Air Travel

 AP:  London - Airlines moaned in Europe and passengers groaned as ash from an erupting Icelandic volcano brought days of uncertainty to thousands of air travelers.  Hundreds of flights were cancelled Tuesday, as winds blew a cloud of ash from the Grimsvotn volcano over to Scotland.  Experts say particles from the ash can stall jet engines and sandblast planes' windows.  Ash has swept over Norway and is headed for Scotland; Germany could be affected tomorrow.

Iceland Volcano Erupts

 AP:  Reykjavik, Iceland - Scientists say a plume of ash, smoke and steam from a volcano in Iceland has risen 12 miles (20 kilometers) into the air, but there is no sign yet that it will disrupt international air traffic.  The Grimsvotn volcano began erupting Saturday for the first time since 2004.  Police closed a main road near the volcano on Sunday, as heavy ash fell in the sparsely populated area.  Air officials ordered a no-fly zone of 120 nautical miles (220 kilometers) in all direction...
