What is True Salvation?

"NOW THE SPIRIT SPEAKS EXPRESSLY THAT IN THE LATTER TIMES SOME WILL DEPART FROM THE FAITH, GIVING HEED TO SEDUCING SPIRITS AND DOCTRINES OF DEVILS"

I TIMOTHY 4:1

Now, more than any time in history, there are a greater number of churches promoting different faiths, but they can't all be right.  The scriptures tell us, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is the way of death" Proverbs 16:25.  Wow, that's not quite what were are hearing in mainstream Christian media today!  In fact, it's just the opposite that we are hearing from the preachers of megachurches in the United States and some parts of the world.  The renowned statement today is, "I just don't judge anyone; I leave that up to God."  Yes, God is the judge and we will all be judged according to our "works," Revelation 20:12; which leads me to another scripture, "You will know them by their fruits" Matthew 7:16.

Paul admonished the church, "Mark them who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned and avoid them, for they serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple" Romans 16:17-18.  We see a lot of this going on today.  Now this sounds a bit judgmental, according to today's standards, wouldn't you say?  Paul instructs the church to "mark" those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine.  It absolutely is casting judgment, and this is what we have to do in order to escape deception!  He also said in I Corinthians 6:2, "Do you not know that the saints will judge the world?  And if the world will be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?"  Paul cut to the chase and he didn't mince words.  He had a Godly jealousy over the flock of God and he didn't want "ravening wolves" coming into the church with "enticing words" deceiving the flock.  He told them to beware of false teachers, false doctrines and doctrines of devils.  "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves" Matthew 7:15.  Wow, pretty straight forward, wouldn't you say?  This was Jesus talking and He didn't mince words either!

It all sounds so very sweet and it sounds appropriately true to the Lord's merciful nature, "Let's not judge anyone, not atheists, homosexuals, not different religions; let's just accept everyone and hold out our arms to everyone," etc, etc...  Yes, that sounds so very sweet and loving and absolutely what God would want - not!  Yes, we are to love everyone, but not embrace their doctrines of devils, their slight of words, their heresies and craftiness.  We are to "mark" them and "avoid" them.  The Word of God also tells us that, "Except the days be shortened, no one would be saved" Matthew 24:22.

With the widespread doctrine of all inclusive acceptance today, you don't hear too much sound doctrine, such as this:  "Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man will see the Lord" Hebrews 12:14.  "Let not sin reign therefore in your mortal body, that you should obey the lusts of it.  Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.  For sin shall not have dominion over you, or you are not under the law, but under grace.  What then, should we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace?  God forbid.  Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are, whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"  Romans 6:12-16.

"For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.  For would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness,  than after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them" II Peter 2:20-21.  How can you be worse off, as this scripture describes, if you "can't backslide or lose your salvation?"

"No servant can serve two masters, for he will either hate one and love the other, or else he will hold to one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and mannon (money)" Luke 16:13.  By the way, much of what is wrong among those proclaiming Christ, but living a different lifestyle, is money.  The Bible tells us that, "The love of money is the root of all evil, which while some coveted after it, they erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows" I Timothy 6:10.

Finally, some will argue, "If a preacher or church member falls away, then they weren't ever saved in the first place."  I have heard that time and time again.  Yet, the Word of God tells us, "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God" Hebrews 3:12.  My only comment to that is, how can someone depart from the living God, if he was never with God.  Also, Paul is speaking to brethren here, not sinners.  I Timothy 4:16, "Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine, continue in them, for in doing this, you will both save thyself and those who hear you."

"Every one of us will give an account of himself to God" Romans 14:12

I won't elaborate on this topic any further, but if you are interested in continuing, I strongly suggest you study the books of Romans and Jude.  May the Lord keep you in the "faith which was once delivered unto the saints" Jude 1:3
