USGS:  A major 6.5 earthquake hit Guerrero, Mexico on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 01:47:26 UTC, at a depth of 64.9 km (40.3 mi).

Commentary:  Major earthquakes continue to hit throughout the world in various places on a regular basis.  A few centuries ago, these were rare, now generally a week doesn't pass without seeing one or numerous major (>5.9) earthquakes.  The graph below, which starts in 1973 and ends this year, October 2011, is very telling.  "Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places" Matthew 24:7.
