Kenya - Firefighters are struggling to save two of the countries most important water towers and fires have already caused massive damage to the area.  More than 80 kilometers of grassland in the moorland of the Mt Kenya forest have been consumed by raging fires.  Firefighters have to trek about eight hours to reach the scene of the fire, but they also have to be replaced every 24 hours due to exhaustion.  Fighting fires with human hands alone is a herculean task.  New fires are breaking out daily due to strong winds.  Generally, helicopters are used to help put out such blazes, but Kenya is very ill prepared to take on these fires.  The firefighters, who use basic tools like rubber flippers and backpack fire extinguishers, have been forced to resort to traditional methods like clearing vegetation to create fire breaks to help keep the fires from spreading to new ares, reported NationMedia.com.
