Approximately 106 million people are infected with Gonorrhea every year (700,000 in the US) and it is becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics.  Fewer of those infected are responding to the treatments which once killed it.

The last resort drug, cephalosporin, has become largely ineffective, so we are about out of options, according to the WHO (World Health Organization).  Antibiotic-resistant cases have shown up in Australia, France, Japan, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

WHO's Dr. Manjula Lusti-Narasimhan said, "The available data only shows the tip of the iceberg."  Like all organisms, bacteria naturally evolve to evade their predators, so the fact that they are becoming more resistant to antibiotics isn't totally surprising.  However, the speed with which they're evolving has been disturbing in recent years, reported Forbes.

Gonorrhea has earned superbug status, as it is now resistant to all but one drug and that one drug is quickly losing its effectiveness.

Jesus said, "Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes in various places" Matthew 24:7.  Jesus said there would be pestilences before He returns, and what we are seeing across the globe in the way of superbugs should send up a signal that the Lord's return is close at hand.

With the sin of promiscuity rampant in the world today, many people having intimate relationships with casual, fly-by-night acquaintances, the outlook behind this sexually transmitted superbug should frighten those who live such lifestyles.

There is one hope for a new life, a sudden change from the old paths of sin, to a new, clean path of righteous living, and that is the supernatural new life given only through Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.  The Word of God says, "If any man be in Christ Jesus, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new" 2 Corinthians 5:17.
