USGS:  A major 6.3 earthquake hit near the east coast of Honshu, Japan on August 19, 2011, at 05:36:32 UTC, at a depth of 43.6 km (27.1 mi).  

Commentary:  From 1973 through 2006, the chart below shows a graph plot for all magnitude earthquakes happening throughout the world; notice the drastic increase in numbers each year.  This is what Jesus said would happen before His return, "Nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom, and there will famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places" Matthew 24:7.
