This is a continuation of our synopsis of each of the signs Jesus told His disciples about in Matthew 24, which would occur preceding His return in the last days.  The third sign is stated in Matthew 24:7 "...there will be famines..."  We will cover a pattern of famines over the last fifty years to determine what the current situation is:

There were 9 famines in the 1970s worldwide:  Nigeria, Mauritania, Mali, Chad, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Cambodia.

There were 2 famines in the 1980s worldwide:  Uganda, Ethiopia.

There were 4 famines in the 1990s worldwide:  Somalia, North Korea, Sudan, Ethiopia.

There were 20 famines in the 2000s worldwide:  Ethiopia, Congo, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Malawi, Niger, Somalia, Uganda, Djibouti, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Madagascar, Myanmar, North Korea, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Eritrea, Tajikistan. 

There are currently 25 famines ongoing since 2010 worldwide:   Sudan, Malawi, Niger, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Myanmar, North Korea, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Madagascar, Tajikistan, Kenya, Sahel, Eritrea, India, China, Congo, Pakistan, Tanzania, Nigeria.  * Many more countries are included in mass malnutrition categories, but have not officially been included on a list of countries experiencing "famine," although millions suffer malnourishment-related deaths each year.

The numbers speak volumes about the day and hour in which we live.  There will always be scoffers and those who refuse to believe; albeit, the Word of God is true and will come to pass whether or not anyone in the world believes.  "In the last days there will be scoffers, walking after their own lusts, saying, 'Where is the promise of His coming?  Since our fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation" 2 Peter 3:3-4.  Nevertheless, God's Word says, "Heaven parted as a scroll when it is rolled together and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.  And the kings of the earth, great men, rich men, chief captains, mighty men, every bondman, and every free man hid themselves in dens and rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, 'Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb (Jesus), for the great day of His wrath has come and who will be able to stand?'"
