FoxNews.com (excerpts): The White House on Monday defended Vice President Joe Biden for saying that the Taliban isn't an enemy of the United States, despite the years spent fighting the militant Islamic group that gave a home to Al Qaeda and its leader Osama bin Laden, while he plotted the September 11 terror attacks. "It's only regrettable when taken out of context," White House spokesman Jay Carney said of the vice president's remarks in an interview published Monday. "Look, the Taliban per se is not our enemy. That's critical," Biden said. "There is not a single statement that the president has ever made in any of our policy assertions that the Taliban is our enemy, because it threatens US interests." Indeed, the US entered Afghanistan just weeks after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans, to rid the country of Al Queda, whose leader had been an invited guest and offered safe haven for years by the Taliban government that ruled Afghanistan with an iron fist.
Commentary: What other kind of "context" can you give Biden's statement? Talk about playing "word games!" What does the "per se" mean? This is akin to law enforcement stating, "We are not at war with the mob; we are only against illegal drugs, illegal prostitution, money laundering..." What kind of double talk nonsense is that! Have you ever seen an employee say, "black is white," if that's what their boss believes? I have, and it is really disgusting. We have here a prime example of that in Vice President Biden, if you notice his remark, "There's not a single statement that the president has ever made..." His words and Obama's support of them are treasonous! These are people who are bought and paid for; they have no ethics or personal convictions of their own; puppets and mimickers they are. The fact that our president and his administration has spoken words of betrayal concerning this nation and our enemies is not anything new prophetically. Jesus said, "A brother will betray his brother to death, the father the son, and children will rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death" Mark 13:12. Our Lord said this type of treachery will be common in the last days. Betrayals are primarily centered around Islam, if you will notice. Many family members among Muslims betray their own flesh and blood and kill one another for various reasons in the name of "honor killing." This is Sharia law and it is prophetic. It will not only continue, but it will become more prevalent in the world, as we get ever closer to the Lord's return.

HuffingtonPost.com by Ileana Llorens (excerpts): A series of experiments conducted by Italian researchers indicate the Shroud of Turin is likely authentic, but the team has not yet reached a definite conclusion. Decades of research on Jesus's proposed burial cloth have revealed an array of conflicting ideas surrounding the shroud's authenticity. However, researchers from Italy's National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development, believe their findings undermine previous theories that the shroud was faked in the medieval period, the Telegraph reports. The new claim seems to again stir controversy, as many point to previous research to the contrary. Last year, scientists were able to create replicate marks on the cloth using highly advanced ultraviolet techniques that weren't available 2,000 years ago - nor during the medieval times, for that matter. Research in the 1980s suggests the image was "forged" on the cloth between 1260 and 1390, but scientists have determined the hypothesis was based on testing material from a patch likely used to repair the cloth after a fire, the BBC reports. Since the shroud and "all its facets" still cannot be replicated using today's top-notch technology, researchers suggest it is impossible that the original image could have been created in either period. However, scientists are willing to point out the flaw in their findings, the Vatican Insider reports: "This inability to repeat (and therefore falsify) the image on the Shroud makes it impossible to formulate a reliable hypothesis on how the impression was made." Still, lead researcher professor Manuela Marinelli estimates the cloth is at least 95 percent authentic, the Voice of Russia points out. "Nobody can give 100 percent guarantees 2,000 years after it had been found." The research team emphasizes their inclinations are not definite, but the Vatican Insider points out one of history's biggest mysteries still has no answer: "Regardless of the age of the Shroud, whether it is medieval (1260 - 1390), as shown by the controversial dating by radiocarbon, or older, as indicated by other investigations, and regardless of the actual importance of controversial historical documents on the existence of the Shroud in the years preceding 1260, the most important question, the 'question of questions' remains the same: 'How did that body image appear on the Shroud?'"
Commentary: Not mentioned in this article, is the fact that pollens on the Shroud were scientifically dated to the time of Christ during earlier studies. It has been widely recognized that the radiocarbon dating was botched, because the testing was completed on an area of the cloth that was mended after it was damaged by fire in 1532. An astonishing discovery was made when an eight-year-old prodigy by the name of Akiane Kramarik, painted a portrait of the same Jesus she said visits her. The name of her portrait, again, completed at the age of eight, is "Prince of Peace." After her portrait of Christ was publicized, one of the scientists who examined the Shroud contacted Akiane about the amazing resemblance the Shroud has to her portrait of Jesus. Another profound thing happened when Colton Burpo, not quite four years old, suffered a near death experience when his appendix burst. He later told his parents (who authored a book about Colton's experiene, "Heaven is for Real") that he saw Jesus in heaven. His parents showed him many pictures of Jesus while shopping, in books, paintings and photos, but Colton said none of the many pictures of Jesus really looked like Jesus, until he saw the Jesus Akiane painted at the age of eight! An excellent resolution was created by South Carolina State Representative Alan D. Clemmons in support of Israel, and H.R. 4339 was introduced and adopted by the House in the State of South Carolina on 6/2/11. The following is South Carolina's resolution in their support of Israel:
TO COMMEND THE NATION OF ISRAEL FOR ITS RELATIONS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND WITH THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, Israel has been granted her lands under and through the oldest recorded deed as reported in the Old Testament, a tome of scripture held sacred and reverenced by Jew and Christian alike, as the acts and words of God; and
Whereas, as the Grantor of said lands, God stated to the Jewish people in the Old Testament, in Leviticus, Chapter 20, Verse 24: "Ye shall inherit their land and I will give it to you to possess it, a land that floweth with mild and honey; and
Whereas, God has never rescinded His grant of said lands; and
Whereas, along with the grant of said lands to the Jewish people, God provided for the non-Jewish residents of the land in commanding that governance must be in one law for all without drawing distinction between Jewish and non-Jewish citizens, as contained in Leviticus 24:22; and
Whereas, the Nation of Israel declared its independent control and governance of said lands on May 14, 1948, with the goal of reestablishing their God-given lands as a homeland for the Jewish people; and
Whereas, the United States of America, having been the first country to recognize Israel as an independent nation and as Israel's principal ally, has joined a close and mutually beneficial relationship with Israel and her people; and
Whereas, indeed, Israel is the United States of America's greatest friend in the Mideast; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina and the nation of Israel have enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial relations since 1948, a friendship that continues to strengthen with each passing year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, commend the nation of Israel for its relations with the United States of America and with the State of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that the members of this body support Israel in their natural and God-given right of self-governance and self-defense upon their own lands, recognizing that Israel is neither an attacking force, nor an occupier of the lands of others, and that peace can be afforded the region only through a united Israel governed under one law for all people.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of each of South Carolina's sister states within the United States of America with the request and recommendation of this body that a similar resolution to that stated herein be proposed within their respective bodies.
Commentary: It is amazing how little recognition this resolution has been given throughout the news media. It was introduced and adopted on 6/2/11, but I am only hearing of it today, 12/19/11. I will be doing research to try to discover if any of the other states have adopted this outstanding resolution passed by South Carolina. The resolution is absolute truth, but there are many evil enemies of Israel lurking to attack any such rising support of Israel, not only in the Middle East, but that sinister hate slithers here among us in the United States. It is foretold in the scriptures for the last days, and we are living in the last days: "It will come to pass in that day that I (God) will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Israel" Zechariah 12:9. "I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle and the city will be taken, and the houses rifled and the women ravished and half the city will go into captivity, and the residue of the people will not be cut off from the city" Zechariah 14:2. The scriptures further explain that God Himself will fight against those nations that come against Israel and He will destroy them in the last battle of the age, the battle of Armageddon (Joel 3). When President Barack Hussein Obama openly stood against Israel earlier this year, to suggest that Israel be divided and apportioned to the Palestinians, this very act was prophecy fulfilled before our eyes, Israel's major ally betraying him, as prophesied by Zechariah. Nevertheless, there are many God-fearing people in the US, who are taking a stand for Israel, and until the Lord takes us up (1 Thessalonians 4:17), we will continue to stand and fight for Israel, God's firstborn, God's elect.

NationalReview.com by Jim Geraghty: The signatures of dozens, if not hundreds, of northern Indiana residents were faked on petitions used to place presidential candidates on the state primary ballot in 2008, The Tribune and Howey Politics Indiana have revealed in an investigation. Several pages from petitions used to qualify Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the state's Democratic primary contain names and signatures that appear to have been copied by hand from a petition for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jim Schellinger. The petitions were filed with the Indiana Election Division after the St. Joseph County Voter Registration Office verified individuals' information on the documents. St. Joseph County Prosecutor Michael Dvorak's name appears twice on the Clinton petitions. After The Tribune faxed one of the signatures to him, Dvorak identified that signature as his own and confirmed that he had signed the petition. Dvorak did not respond after a copy of the second signature on the same petition was faxed to him by The Tribune. Spokeswoman Lora Bentley later said the prosecutor could no longer comment on the matter because it was now under investigation. Falsifying a ballot petition is a Class D felony in Indiana. According to Dale Simmons, co-legal counsel for the Elections Division, the statute of limitations for Class D felonies is five years. According to the newspaper's investigation, the evidence suggests that at least 19 pages of Obama's petitions were copied by two individuals.
Commentary: State elections officials say that the Obama camp qualified in the 2nd Congressional District with 534 signatures, the Clinton team with 704; but an estimated 150 signatures between both petitions may have been forged, according to reports, leaving open the possibility that, in at least Obama's case, the number of legal signatures that were required to put his name on the ballot fell short. Congressman Rokita said the president may not have legally qualified for the primary ballot if the number of the alleged forgeries dropped his primary bid below the 500 legitimate signatures required. The Obama administration is ignoring a petition forgery scandal unfolding in South Bend, IN, Congressman Rokita alleged Sunday, stating he is still waiting for a response to a letter he wrote to US Attorney General Eric Holder about the case. This is not surprising. Obama was virtually an unknown at the start of his campaign. There is an agenda behind the Obama scandal, you can count on that, and it isn't good for America. The devastation he is causing the US is inevitable though, if you believe in Bible prophecy. His immigration of Muslims by the tens of thousands, his staunch support of them, and his healthcare plan, with the inclusion of its RFID chip, is pivotal to the coming "new world order." The Bible says, "He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, bond and free to receive a mark in their right hand or foreheads, that no man might buy or sell, except he who has the mark, the name of the beast (Antichrist) or the number of his name. Those who do not receive the mark will be beheaded (Rev 20:4). Who beheads people these days? Only the Muslims.

This we know, but the proof has been provided in a recent video (link: Shoebat.com). Islamists are succeeding by way of the ridiculous policies enacted by central and local governments, which are so careful not to discriminate against Islam, that they are eroding their own fair laws and freedoms. In the USA, our laws already implement the same ridiculous policies and there are many indications that similar problems of Islamic infiltration appear to be in place in the US as well. The US, UK and France helped give power to the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya, which is a major threat to our national security. We believe there was strong influence from the Muslim Brotherhood "advisers" in place, who are on the payroll of all three governments, which influenced the unseating of Muammar Ghadafi of Libya, as well as the "Arab Spring" uprisings. Commentary: The character you see in the photo above, is backed and paid for by the Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE). What Walid Shoebat is referring to in his article here, is widespread IFE infiltration into the UK's labor unions and local government; by their deceptions and undermining of protective policies in place to prevent coercion and corruption within local governments. People are being bribed, coerced and even threatened into electing officials primed by IFE, to fit their political agendas and promote Sharia laws. Young activists were kicked in the head until they lay motionless in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Unfazed by TV cameras watching every move, Egypt's military took a dramatically heavier hand Saturday to crush protests against its rule in nearly 48 hours of continuous fighting in Egypt's capital, that has left more than 300 injured and nine dead, many of them shot. Photos and videos posted online showed troops pulling up the shirt of one woman protester in a conservative headscarf, leaving her half-naked as they dragged her in the street. The main street between Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the anti-Mubarak protests and the Parliament and Cabinet buildings, where the clashes began early the previous morning, looked like a war zone Saturday. Military police on rooftops pelted protesters below with stones and firebombs and launched truncheon-swinging assaults to drive the crowds back. Flames leaped from the windows of the state geographical society - a treasure trove of antique scientific books - that was hit by firebombs in the melee. Some youths tried to rescue books from the fire. Young activists put helmets or buckets on their heads, or grabbed sheets of concrete and even satellite dishes as protection against the stones hailing down from the roofs. The streets were strewn with chunks of concrete, stones, broken glass, burned furniture and peddlers' carts, as clashes continued to rage after nightfall Saturday. The clashes began early Friday with a military assault on a three-week old sit-in outside the Cabinet building by protesters demanding the military hand over power immediately to civilians. In the afternoon, military police charged into Tahrir, swinging truncheons and long sticks, briefly chasing out protesters and setting fire to their tents. Footage broadcast on the private Egyptian CBC television showed soldiers beating two protesters with sticks, repeatedly stomping on the head of one, leaving the motionless bodies on the pavement. They trashed a field hospital set up by protesters, swept into buildings where television crews were filming and briefly detained journalists. They tossed the camera and equipment of an Al-Jazeera TV crew off the balcony of a building. A journalist that was briefly detained told the Associated Press that he was beaten up with sticks and fists, while being led into the Parliament building. Inside he saw a group of detained young men and one woman. Each was surrounded by six or seven soldiers beating him or her with sticks or steel bars, or giving electrical shocks with prods. "Blood covered the floor and an officer was telling the soldiers to wipe the blood," said the journalist, who asked not to be identified for security concerns. Meanwhile, the powerful Muslim Brotherhood and the more conservative Islamist Salafis focused on following vote counting from the most recent round of elections.
Commentary: The accompanying video to this story is on the News Videos page of this website, dated 12/18/11. President Obama has publicly said he wants to "strengthen ties with the Muslim Brotherhood." Not surprising in the least. The writers of this article seem to have missed the fact that after the troops dragged one woman, whose shirt they pulled up, one of them kicked her in the chest twice. She lay motionless after that. When another tried to pick her up by the arm, she slumped to the ground and lay motionless. It appeared she may have been dead, or unconscious and seriously injured at the very least. President Barack Obama continues ushering tens of thousands of Muslims into the US, with the last bunch totaling 80,000; while denying amnesty to persecuted Christians who are being killed and tortured in Muslim-dominated countries; all the while, some US citizens and most certainly the Obama administration, keep opening their arms to these militant Muslims. They keep defending their "Muslim rights" in the US, and we could end up like Britain, with their 85 Sharia courts, or worse yet, like Egypt! If you are one who loves the militant Muslims so much, why don't you get out of the United States and go live in Egypt? I know why, you are likely to get caned, beheaded or beat to death there, but not here - at least for now that is. What some still fail to realize is that Islam is not just a religion. Their cause is not about "religious rights," as they would have you believe. Their religion is also a violent and unfair political system that we do not want here in the United States! Again, if you are one who wants it, Sharia law, get out! Get out of the US, which was founded on CHRISTIAN religious freedoms, and get yourself into Egypt, where you can get yourself beat to death by your "friendly" Muslims, if that's what you really want.
The Word of God tells us that a world dictator will rise in these last days and require that everyone receive a mark on their right hand or forehead to buy and sell, and if they refuse, they will be beheaded! What other group do you know of who goes around cutting peoples heads off, besides Muslims? Their objective is to take over the world and any Muslim who denies this is a fake Muslim, or lying to you, which is also allowed by their "faith." Their "holy" books teach this doctrine. The Bible says, "He causes both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond to receive a mark on their right hands, or in their foreheads, so no man can buy or sell, except those who have the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let he who has understanding count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is six hundred, sixty-six" Revelation 13:16-18. "...I saw the souls of them who were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the Word of God, which had not worshiped the beast or his image, neither received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands..." Revelation 20:4. We are currently living in a dispensation of God's grace. Once the great tribulation begins, which is coming on the whole world (Luke 21:35), the time of grace will end. If you aren't taken out of the world by the Lord, before the tribulation begins (1 Thessalonians 4:17), there may come a day when you may be faced with starvation, or decapitation, if you do not receive the mark of satan. Some might believe it is something they will just have to do to survive and "God will understand." Wrong. The Bible says, "The third angel followed them saying with a loud voice, 'If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead or in his hand, the same will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb (Jesus): and the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and forever, and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name" Revelation 14:9-11. If you don't think the Muslims can conquer, you haven't heard of the Ottoman Empire, during which time they slaughtered roughly 2.1 million Christians, while ruling much of the Middle East until 1989. Evacuation efforts underway. HuffingtonPost.com (excerpts): The death toll continues to rise as Philippines residents attempt to recover from the of tropical storm Washi (known as Sendong in the Philippines) that wreaked damage and devastation, as it passed over the islands Friday night. More than 400 residents have been pronounced dead and hundreds are missing after flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rains swept through the area about 2:30 a.m. Officials say most people died from drowning, Bloomberg reports. The government deployed about 20,000 soldiers to help with recovery efforts in cities on the north coast of the island of Mindanao, according to AFP. Thousands of residents have been displaced by the storm. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton offered the country's condolences to those affected by the storm. "The government stands ready to assist Philippine authorities as they respond to this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected," she said in a statement. Commentary: Speaking of the last days, the prophet Isaiah said, "Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, will cast down to earth with the hand" Isaiah 28:2. "You will be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, with earthquake, a great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire" Isaiah 29:6. The world has experienced record-breaking storms over the last two years, some unlike in recorded history. These are signs of the last days, the "birth pains" or "travail" (1 Thessalonians 5:3), that the Word of God tells us will happen before the return of the Lord. Nahum, speaking of the last days, said, "The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked; the Lord has His way in the whirlwind, in the storm and in the clouds, and the clouds are the dust of His feet" Nahum 1:3. The Lord brings storm and calamity sometimes to awaken people spiritually to the much greater tribulation ahead, if they don't turn to the Lord with their whole hearts now. The warnings are being issued by the Lord. God will protect His people in the Philippines, but He is calling the wicked to repentance. Many people still do not want to hear this type of message and they are actually hostile toward it, but it comes from the Word of God and it's true just the same. Every soul will face the judgment of God once we leave this body; now is the time to get right with God; tomorrow could be too late. Dear President Obama,
In reading today's New York Times Business section, I came across an article written by Keith Bradsher entitled "China Imposes New Tariffs of US Vehicles." In fact, I had to take a second look to ensure that I was reading the article headline correctly. I did not need to read past the first sentence of the article before realizing how little respect the Chinese government has for you and your administration. In case you did not come across the article, the opening sentence reads, "The Chinese government increased trade tensions with the Obama administration Wednesday evening by unexpectedly imposing anti-dumping tariffs on imports utility vehicles and midsize and large cars from the United States."
This new and unfair tariff, which amounts to a 22 percent increase in the import price, evoked the weakest response imaginable from Carol Guthrie, a spokesperson for the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Her response was, "We are very disappointed in this action by China...and will be discussing the latest action with both our stakeholders and Congress to determine the best course going forward." For the past year, I have been clamoring to do exactly to China what they are now doing to us. When are you going to take a stand and stop permitting China to destroy our great nation? You should immediately issue a response to the President of China declaring that a 25 percent tax on every product China produces and imports into the United States will be immediately imposed.
How much more money are you willing to permit China to take from our economy? Isn't 370 billion dollars a year enough? It's time to wake up and realize that China is committing economic terrorism against the United States. You are single-handedly allowing numerous countries to destroy our great nation and everything we stand for.

Commentary: How much more money is Obama willing to permit China to take from our country? The answer is, "As much as it takes to bring this nation down to economic collapse." Bless his heart, Donald Trump is a very successful businessman and he has genuine concern for this nation. It seems Donald Trump's naivety comes from a lack of spiritual discernment and how Bible prophecy is being fulfilled throughout the world, before our eyes; God bless him. He is right on the mark, but what Mr. Trump doesn't know is that President Obama has purposefully aggravated China recently, and he has an agenda; he isn't that stupid. The only way Marxist-Socialists can gain control, is to bring down first, that which they desire to control. Hitler did it in Nazi Germany; Mao Zedong did it in China; Fidel Castro did it in Cuba (if you read about the "Special Period" in Cuba economically, Castro went so far as to even control the diet of the people - ring a bell?); Mussolini did it in Italy (he felt a civilian military was necessary, demanding that citizens perform civic duties - ring a bell?); if you read the ideologies of Lenin and Stalin, you will also find a mix of socialist flavor. Once these Marxist, Socialist, Fascist, or Communist governments are in place, the poor always languish; those who are sick and poor die, and eventually everyone (except the powermongers and elitists) suffers under repressive governments. Hundreds of thousands of those who resisted these dictatorial regimes were murdered or imprisoned. God's plan of governance is, of course, the best and most successful, and that calls for freedom, justice and mercy. God Himself doesn't even mandate that anyone worship Him, or obey Him; otherwise, God would be a dictator, but He isn't. He prefers to see His creation as loyal and sincere worshipers of His Majesty, by choice. The Word of God says, "Do not oppress one another, but fear your God, for I am the Lord your God" Leviticus 25:17. The Bible also tells us that a world dictator will arise in these last days, as foretold in Daniel 7. The Word of God tells us, "He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads, that no man might buy or sell, except he who has the mark, or the name of the beast (Antichrist), or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let he who has understanding count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man and his number is six hundred, sixty-six" Revelation 13:16-18.

AOL Real Estate by Krisanne Alcantara (excerpts): First, a US Army vet's American flag. Then, a virgin Mary statue; and now child's medically-mandated playhouse? Though it's not breaking news that homeowners' associations are drawing fire for their questionably strict enforcement of covenant rules, specifically those regarding personal items within "common areas," the latest decision from an HOA in Lexingon, KY, has raised more controversy and community-wide furor than usual. The Andover Forest Homeowners' Association in Lexington is demanding that the playhouse of a 3-year-old Cooper Veloudis, who has cerebral palsy, be removed from the Veloudis family's yard. The playhouse, which was built upon the instruction of the toddler's therapist, cost the family $5,000 to construct and plays a vital part in his physical development.
Commentary: I wrote the manager of this HOA and you may want to do the same at: manager@emgms.com. These people are without a natural conscience and that is becoming very commonplace in the world today. This child suffers a handicap and if you have ever had an ill or handicapped child, you also know of the parents' grief. The fact that this HOA can heap more hardship on an already afflicted family demonstrates their utter disregard for people and their suffering. Yes, there are bylaws and policies that are in place for everyone, but on occasion there are very special circumstances involved that must be taken into consideration, that is, if you have a conscience. The Bible says, "He will receive judgment without mercy, who has shown no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment" James 2:13. Also, "Let them be before the Lord continually, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth; because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart" Psalms 109:15-16.

BellinghamHerald.com (excerpts): St George, UT - Thousands of migratory birds were killed or injured after apparently mistaking a Wal-Mart parking lot, football fields and other snow covered areas of southern Utah for bodies of water and plummeting to the ground in what one state wildlife expert called the worst mass bird crash she'd ever seen. Crews went to work cleaning up the dead birds and rescuing the injured survivors after the creatures crash-landed in the St George area Monday night. By midday Wednesday, volunteers had helped rescue more than 3,000 birds, releasing them into a nearby pond. There's no count on how many died, although officials estimate it's upwards of 1,500. "They're just everywhere," said Teresa Griffin, wildlife program manager for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resource's southern region. "It's been nonstop. All our employees are driving around picking them up and we've got so many people coming to our office and dropping them off." Officials say stormy conditions probably confused the flock of eared grebes, a duck-like aquatic bird likely making its way to the Mexican coast for the winter. The birds plunged into a Cedar City Wal-Mart parking lot, football fields, highways and over miles of property that had been blanketed by about three inches of gleaming snow. A high-profile crash in Arkansas in January killed about 4,500 birds, mainly red-winged black birds. More than 175 mass death events, in which more than a 1,000 birds died, have been reported to the National Wildlife Health Center in the past ten years. Griffin said the Utah downing was notable among the ones she's seen because it was so widespread. Downed flocks were reported all over Cedar City, as far as 30 miles south. "I've been here 15 years and this was the worst downing I've seen," she told the newspaper.
Commentary: The Bible says that in the last days animals will die in mass numbers, "The land will mourn and everyone that dwells in it will languish, with the beasts of the field, the fowls of heaven, yes, the fishes of the sea will also be taken away" Hosea 4:3. An astronomical number of fish, birds and mammals have died just since the start of this year.
