AP: Juba, South Sudan: South Sudan became the world's newest nation early Saturday, 7/9/11, officially breaking away from Sudan after two civil wars over five decades that cost the lives of millions. In the new country's capital, Juba, streets pulsed with excitement. Residents danced, banged on jerry cans and chanted the name of the world's newest president, Salva Kiir. One man kneeled and kissed the ground, as a group ran through the streets singing, "We will never, never, never surrender." "Ah, I'm free," said Daniel Dang, a 27-year-old police officer and former soldier who broke out in a wide grin. The Republic of South Sudan earned independence at 12:01 am Saturday, breaking Africa's largest country in two. It marked the culmination of a January independence vote, which was guaranteed in a 2005 peace deal that ended the most recent north-south war. After the celebrations die down, residents of South Sudan face an uphill climb. While the new country is oil-rich, it is one of the poorest and least developed places on Earth. Unresolved problems between the south and its former foe to the north could mean new conflict along the new international border, advocates and diplomats warn. Saturday's early morning celebrations were joyous for the freedom gained, but tinged with the memories of family lost. At least 2 million people were killed in Sudan's last civil war, fought from 1983-2005.
My Comments: I am thrilled for the South Sudanese! They have suffered such losses. These people are predominantly Christian, whereas the North Sudanese are Muslim. I hope and pray for the peace of these precious people, who have lost so very much. Over 2 million lives have been lost. In the early Sudanese state, the government enacted many repressive measures. In 1962, foreign Christian missionaries were expelled from the country and Christian schools were closed. Does this give you a hint as to why 2 million people are dead, mostly Christians, and why the civil wars raged, the last one from 1983-2005? Yes, you have it right. The Muslims have to control and convert, or kill! This is their religion! Unfortunately, because these devils are repressive and murderous, as a matter of their religious beliefs, I don't foresee any real peace between the north and south, until Jesus comes to destroy the works of the devil and set up His righteous kingdom. Let's pray for South Sudan, that God will have mercy, until He returns. As we approach more perilous times, we need to remember the words of Jesus, "Watch and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass and to stand before the Son of man (Jesus)" Luke 21:36. How will we escape these things? Jesus was referring to the rapture, the "catching up" of the saints, prior to the great tribulation period that is coming on all the earth: "The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God and the dead in Christ (Christians) will rise first; then we which are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so will we ever be with the Lord" 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

USGS: A 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Kermdec Islands region again Thursday at 09:10:52 UTC, 19.9 km (12.4 mi) in depth. A 7.6 quake hit this same area on Wednesday!

My Comments: Humm...I wonder if Barack Obama will be able to contain himself and control his urges to interfere with justice in this Muslim murderer's military proceedings, especially during his campaign for next year's election. I suppose we will have to wait and see, if the Lord tarries.
I can almost see the thoughts rolling across Mr. Hassan's bald head, "I don't care! I'm looking forward to my 70 virgins...." Isn't he going to get a big surprise, if he doesn't repent and accept our true Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Update: AP (excerpts): Huntsville, TX - A Mexican national was executed Thursday for the rape-slaying of a teenager, after the US Supreme Court turned down an appeal to spare him that was supported by Mexico and the White House. In his last minutes, Humberto Leal repeatedly said he was sorry and accepted responsibility. "I have hurt a lot of people...I take full blame for everything. I am sorry for what I did," he said in the death chamber. "One more thing," he said as the drugs began taking affect. Then he shouted twice, "Viva Mexico!" "Ready warden," he said, "Let's get this show on the road." The 38-year-old mechanic was pronounced dead 10 minutes after the lethal drugs began flowing into his arms. He was sentenced to death for the 1994 murder of 16-year-old Adria Sauceda, whose brutalized nude body was found hours after he left a San Antonio street party with her. She was bludgeoned with a chunk of asphalt. Leal was just a toddler when he and his family moved to the US from Monterrrey, Mexico, but his citizenship became a key element of his attorney's efforts to win a stay. They said police never told him following his arrest that he could seek legal assistance from the Mexican government under an international treaty. Mexico, the Obama administration and others had asked the US Supreme Court to delay Leal's execution so Congress could consider a law that would require court reviews in cases where condemned foreign nations did not receive help from their consulates. They said the case could not only affect foreigners in the US, but also Americans detained in other countries. The court rejected the request 5-4. Its five more conservative justices doubted that executing Leal would cause grave international consequences, and doubted "that it is ever appropriate to stay a lower court judgment in light of unenacted legislation." "Our task is to rule on what the law is, not what it might eventually be," the majority said. The court's four liberal-leaning justices said they would have granted the stay. Leal's attorney, Sandra L Babcock, said that with consular help, her client could have shown that he was not guilty, but she added, "This case was not just about one Mexican national on death row in Texas. The execution of Mr. Leal violates the United States treaty commitments, threatens the nations foreign policy interests, and undermines the safety of all Americans abroad." Prosecutors, however, said Congress was unlikely to pass the legislation sought and that Leal's appeals were simply an attempt to evade justice for a gruesome murder. Mexico's foreign ministry said in a statement that the government condemned Leal's execution and sent a note of protest to the US State Department. The ministry also said Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan attempted to contact Texas Governor Rick Perry, who refused to speak on the phone. The governor's office declined to comment on the execution Thursday. Leal's argument that he should have received consular legal aid that could have helped his case was not new. Texas has executed other condemned foreign nationals who raised similar challenges, most recently in 2008. The Obama administration took the unusual step of intervening in a state murder case last week when Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. joined Leal's appeal, asking the high court to halt the execution and give Congress at least six months to consider Leahy's Bill. After his execution, relatives of Leal, who had gathered in Guadalupe, Mexico, burned a T-shirt with an image of the American flag in protest. Leal's uncle, Alberto Leal, criticized the US justice system and the Mexican government and said, "There is a God who makes us all pay." In 2005, President George W. Bush agreed with an International Court of Justice ruling that Leal and 50 other Mexican-born inmates nationwide should be entitled to new hearings in US courts to determine if their consular rights were violated. The Supreme Court later overruled Bush. Stephen Hoffman, an assistant Texas attorney general, said the evidence pointing to Leal's guilt is strong. "At this point, it is clear that Leal is attempting to avoid execution by overwhelming the state and the courts with as many meritless lawsuits and motions as humanly possible," Hoffman said. Prosecutors said Sauceda was drunk and high on cocaine the night she was killed and that Leal offered to take her home. Witnesses said Leal drove off with her around 5 am. Some partygoers found her brutalized nude body later than morning and called police. Sauceda's mother, Rachael Terry, told San Antonio television station KSAT her family already had suffered too long. "A technicality doesn't give anyone a right to come to this country and rape, torture and murder anyone," she said.
My Comments: We do have many conservative lawmakers in Texas, thank God! It is a breath of fresh air knowing that there are those in office who will not be "stared down" by Obama and who are not intimidated by him. Leal's attorney, Sandra L Babcock, said that with consular help, her client could have shown that he was not guilty (in light of Humberto Leal's death chamber confession that he was, in fact, guilty, I hope she doesn't feel too much like a total idiot). Jesus said, "I can do nothing of Myself; as I hear, I judge and my judgment is just, because I do not seek My will, but the will of the Father who sent Me" John 5:30. Jesus was our example and He said that because He sought the will of His Father, not his own will, He made just judgment. Many conservative lawmakers in the US today have a Christian-based faith and they are able to make rational and just judgments; but the radical left legislators who support abortion, homosexual marriage, liberal education about gay marriage in public elementary schools, gays in the military, and who are promoting a socialist world government are the servants of Satan, to whom they yield themselves servants to obey. My Comments: I can't express how pleased I am that someone has a sense of justice in the State of Texas, regardless of Barack Obama or the United Nations! This man brutally raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl and was found guilty of the aggravated murder and sentenced to die. Humberto Leal grew up in the United States, living here since he was two years old and the fact that Obama and the UN wanted to halt his execution in the name of "international justice" would have been a grave injustice to the memory of this young girl and her grieving family, had they been successful in creating a loophole for this devil to escape through. Thank you, Jesus!! Regardless of how repugnant this man's crime was, I truly hope he repented and his soul was spared hell, before he was justifiably executed for his crime. "Be not deceived, God is not mocked: whatever a man sows, that will he also reap" Galations 6:7. God loves everyone and He is forgiving of all sins, if we call on His name. Nevertheless, Jesus came "not to destroy the law, but to fulfill it" (Matthew 5:17) and God's word will stand; we do reap what we sow in this life. (Also see post dated 7/7/11 regarding this case).

Fox News (excerpts): Yellowstone National Park, WYO - Yellowstone National Park authorities will not try to capture a female grizzly that killed a back country hiker because the bruin was trying to defend its cubs when it was surprised by the man, a spokesman said Thursday. The mauling of Brian Matayoshi, 57, of Torrence, CA, was a purely defensive act, park spokesman Al Nash said. He added that Yellowstone typically does not try to capture or remove a bear in what he called a "wildlife incident." It was the first fatal grizzly attack inside the park in 25 years - but the third in the Yellowstone region in just over a year. The attack occurred on Wednesday about 1 1/2 miles up a popular backcountry trail and not far from an area that is one of the park's top attractions. Busloads of tourists normally gather there to take in the view from iconic Artist Point. Matayoshi's wife, Marilyn, escaped serious injury and no longer was at Yellowstone Park, officials said. They declined to reveal her whereabouts. Nash said the couple saw the bear twice on their hike. The first time, they continued hiking. The second time, the grizzly charged them and Matayoshi told his wife to run. She called 911 on her cell phone, and other hikers in the area responded to their cries for help. The woman told park officials she didn't see the bear attack her husband. When the bear went for her, Nash said, she dropped to the ground. The grizzly lifted her off the ground by the day pack she was wearing and then dropped her. Marilyn Matayoshi may have had scrapes and bruises but didn't seek medical attention. Her husband died at the scene, Nash said. "We observed both bite marks and claw marks," he said. In this case, Nash said, park officials relied on Marilyn Matayoshi's account of the attack in deciding not to pursue the grizzly. She told rescuers that the couple surprised the sow with her cubs - one of the most dangerous situations possible for humans encountering grizzlies. Based on her account and understanding of grizzly behavior, rangers believe the bear instinctively charged to protect her young. The bear had never been documented before, never been tagged and there was no reason to believe it had interacted with humans before, Nash said. If so, the decision may very well have been different.
My Comments: Imagine this happening to your husband, wife, or God forbid, one of your children. I can't even fathom what this man's family must be going through. His wife could have also been killed, but she was blessed to escape alive. I think that it is absurd for a national park to allow people to hike where bears frequent. Average people, you and me, have no idea of the risks involved; obviously if we did, we wouldn't go near. I looked up Yellowstone bear warning signs on the internet. Most of them are very mild warnings, such as a sign with a bear on it that says, "Bears frequent here." Another posts a warnings, but mild warnings in my opinion. People are prone to think, How dangerous can it be if I'm allowed to come in here." Honestly, is it ever worth risking anyone's life, ever, by letting people hike where bears frequent the park? Even if it's one person in 25 years, isn't that one person's life valuable enough to keep people away from park areas where bears frequent? Actually, three deaths have occurred in about the last year in the regional area of Yellowstone. A lot of money goes into grizzly bear research and elitists have an agenda to increase the bear and wildlife population throughout the world, in their endeavor to restore the world to an "Eden type environment." They have increased the bear populations 75% deliberately for this reason. In fact, I assure you that the bears are more important to these people than human life. The Word of God tells us that in the last days, vicious animals will attack more people, "I looked, and there a pale horse and the name of him who sat on the horse was Death, and hell followed with him. Power was given to them over one-fourth part of the earth to kill with the sword, hunger, death and by the beasts of the earth" Revelation 6:8.

Helka is known for its extremely varied and hard to predict eruptions
Telegraph.co.uk (excerpts): One of Iceland's most feared volcanoes looks ready to erupt, experts said on Wednesday, raising fears of a new ash cloud halting flights over Europe. The Helka volcano is close to the ash-spewing Eyjafjallajokull, which last year caused the biggest closure of airspace shutdown since the Second World War, affecting more than 100,000 flights and eight million passengers. "The movements around Helka have been unusual in the last two to three days," University of Iceland Geophysicist Pall Einarsson said. While this might not necessarily mean an immediate blast, "the volcano is ready to erupt," he stressed. "The mountain has been slowly expanding in the last few days because of magma buildup." Another geophysicist, Ari Trausit Gudmundsson, also said the measurements around Helka were very "unusual" and that the volcano looked ready to blow. "Something is going on," he said. The volcano dubbed the "Gateway to Hell" by Icelanders in the Middle Ages, is one of the country's most active, having erupted some 20 times over the past millennium, most recently on February 26, 2000. Helka, which is not far from Eyjafjoell and has gone off about once a decade over the past 50 years, is known for its extremely varied and hard to predict eruptions, with some lasting only a matter of days and others lasting months and even years. Wednesday's news of a possible imminent eruption comes just over a month after the violent eruption at the Grimsvotin volcano in the southeast of the country. That eruption subsided after less than a week, having spit out far more ash than Eyjafjoell, but due to more favorable winds for Europe, it caused far less air traffic disruption. Asked what kind of disruptions could be expected if Helka erupts, Gudmundsson said the volcano tends to "produce both ash and lava within the first seconds of an eruption." Lava eruptions are far less disruptive and "if the next eruption is of the same character (as the previous ones) it is unlikely that it will have any affect on flights in Europe," he said. "Of course, this depends on the size of the eruption, which is something that is impossible to predict," he added. Both of Iceland's latest eruptions provided warning signs several hours before, but Helka is known for having a very short fuse. After Iceland's last two eruptions, geologists have warned that the country's volcanoes appeared to have entered a more active phase and that more eruptions could be expected, with Helka believed to be the first in line.

The Coming Crisis (translated from Russian): Scientists do not know what to think about South America "bursting at the seams." In southern Peru, a huge crack 3 km by about 100 meters suddenly appeared. The anomaly occurred in the district of Huakullani Chukuito province near the famous Lake Titicaca. A crack appeared almost immediately; the earth burst at the site of a large tension and scattered huge chunks of soil. Interestingly, the crack did not appear during an earthquake. There was no catastrophe in general, the earth simply broke up. The crack occurred on level ground and is not associated with any disasters and scientists are confused about this fact. Cracks also appear in neighboring Bolivia, and not very long ago, a crack appeared in Africa-Ethiopia. It could be that this is a natural phenomenon, as continents splitting in front of mankind.
My Comments: Call it what you will, I believe in the Word of God. The Bible says that in the last days there will be earthquakes and signs in the heaven and earth beneath, which mark the return of Jesus. "I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, fire and vapor of smoke" Acts 2:19. The next post is about another volcano in Iceland "ready to erupt."

Murderer, Humberto Leal Murderer's Little Helper, Barack Obama
Fox News (excerpt): The execution of a Mexican national on US ground scheduled for Thursday has become something of an international brouhaha. President Obama, the State Department and Mexico have all asked Texas for a last-minute reprieve of Humberto Leal, 38, who was convicted in 1995 in the brutal raping and murder of a teenage girl. Citing the UN-enforced 1963 Vienna Treaty, the officials believe Leal could have altered his penalty had he been given the chance. The treaty requires foreign nationals who are arrested in foreign countries the right to access their consulates. Texas police would have been required to inform Leal that he has the legal right to contact the Mexican consular, which could have offered him legal advice. Critics say, Leal, who was raised in the US since he was 2 years old was never given the option, and in turn, watched a jury take 45 minutes to find him guilty of raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl. Although evidence against Leal was strong, critics say he incriminated himself and had other legal difficulties. "If Texas were to proceed with the scheduled execution of Mr. Leal...there could be no dispute that that execution would be unlawful - specifically in violation of treaty commitments validly made by the United States through constitutionally prescribed processes," Sandra Babcock, a Northwestern University Law professor, who is one of Leal's attorneys, said last week in her appeal to the US Supreme Court. Last Friday, the Obama administration asked the US Supreme Court to stop Texas from executing Leal, asking the court to delay the execution for up to six months to give Congress time to consider legislation that would enforce the UN treaty. Congress reportedly had three years to pass the bill, but DID NOT. Hence, it is impossible to pass a bill that would spare Leal unless a stay is ordered. "Texas is not bound by a foreign courts ruling," Catherine Cesinger, Press Secretary for Gov. Perry's Office said in a statement. "The US Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that the TREATY WAS NOT BINDING on the states that the president does not have the authority to order states to review cases of the then 51 foreign nationals on death row in the US. For 16 years, Leal has exercised his right to file appeals and motions so extensively, one judge in Federal District Court called his case "one of the most procedurally convoluted and complex habeas corpus proceedings" he ever reviewed. So, as it stands, the death warrant could be served at any time after 6 pm Thursday. He will be allowed to address the media, meet family and friends and eat his last meal: fried chicken, pico de Gallo and guisada tacos.
My Comments: Since when does Texas not have thousands of Mexican attorneys to represent this murderer, who very fluently speak "Mexican" Spanish? This man was, in fact, one of the very best states to receive Mexican Spanish bilingual interpretation and translation of US law skills. This move is so absurd it is ridiculous! It isn't like we have a South African here in Texas who speaks only Xhosa! Illegals all over the US want the same benefits as US citizens and Obama is pushing for that, as if there aren't enough already dipping into welfare and Social Security (which was originally supposed to be for retirees, but is now benefiting everyone, including those with only residence status in the US) systems. To top it all off, the man has been in the US since he was 2 YEARS OLD! That would absolutely nullify the whole intent behind the treaty in the first place. These lawyers, and Barack Hussein Obama, need to realize that these laws were put in place to PROTECT people (possibly someone from South Africa who only speaks Xhosa) and not to create LOOPHOLES so criminals can benefit! Barack Obama has done everything, just about, besides go up to every Mexican illegal and kiss their feet for votes. He is so "vote hungry" the man can't even think straight. You would think he would have something better to do with his time besides look for Mexican murderers to protect! "The wisdom of this world is foolishness with God, for it is written, 'He takes the wise in their own craftiness.'" 1 Corinthians 3:19. "The law is slack and judgment never goes forth, because the wicked surrounds the righteous and wrong judgments proceed." Habakkuk 1:4.
