149 WHALES STRANDED IN HOKOTA, JAPAN

A pod of 149 melon-headed whales beached themselves in Hokota, Japan, on Friday morning. Rescuers reportedly only saved three before calling off their rescue efforts before dark Friday evening.

A coastguard official said they see one or two whales washing ashore every year, but this may be the first time over 100 were found on the beach.

An Estimated 200 Tons of Sardines Wash Ashore in Japan

Massive volumes of dead sardines are washing ashore in Isumi City, Chiba Perfecture and the entire area is "fuming" with dead fish. 

Dead fish began washing ashore on June 3rd.  City officials are hauling truckloads away to landfills, but masses more just keep piling up.  The beach has turned blood red with so many dead sardines.  In that trucks are unable to haul the fish away fast enough before more pile into shore, the stench is unbearable for surrounding residents.
