A major 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Kepulauan Talaud, Indonesia, on January 11, 2016, at 1638 UTC, at a depth of 102 km / 63 mi, reported the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami information statement on January 11, 2016, at 1645 UTC.
