A major 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Vanuatu on May 9, 2017, at 9:52 PM, Beijing Time, at a depth of 140 km, reported the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a Tsunami Information Statement on May 9, 2017, at 1359 UTC.
