TURRIALBA VOLCANO ERUPTS, SHUTS DOWN AIRPORTS

Costa Rica’s Turrialba volcano erupted on September 20th and at least four eruptions have occurred, spewing ash 13,000 feet into the air, which caused authorities to close two airports in Costa Rica.

A major 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Panama-Costa Rica border region on December 8, 2014, at 08:54:59 UTC, at a depth of 64 km, reported Geoscience Australia (not finalized).


The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a precautionary tsunami warning on December 8, 2014 at 0900 UTC.

A major 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit 50 km west of Sardinal, Costa Rica, on September 5, 2013, at 12:29:15 UTC, at a depth of 18 km (11.2 mi), reported USGS.

A major 6.6 earthquake hit Costa Rica on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 00:45:34 UTC, at a depth of 20.1 km (12.5 mi).

Residents at the beach of Matapalo, about an hour from Nicoya, said they heard a roaring sound when the earthquake hit.  "I'm shaken, but it doesn't feel close to what it sounded like.  The sound was deafening," said Alberto Canales, a receptionist at the Hotel Riu Guanacaste, reported Boston.com.

A major 7.6 earthquake hit Honjancha, Costa Rica on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at 14:42:07 UTC, at a depth of 40.2 km (25 mi).  A tsunami warning was issued at 17:02 UTC, which has since been cancelled.
