In 2003, the sun emitted a solar flare so great that had it hit
the earth, it would have knocked out the power grid throughout the United
States, power to water utility plants, internet and cell phones. It was the
most powerful in recorded history.
Earlier this year, experts claim the world barely missed another
large-scale EMP catastrophe.
