Approximately
113 elk died in New Mexico within 24 hours, between August 26 and August 27,
2013, on a private ranch just north of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The
case of the elk deaths has been a mystery since August, but an update was
issued by New Mexico Wildlife News on October 22, 2013. The article stated,
“The
Department of Game and Fish has concluded that a toxic algae bloom caused the
deaths of more than 100 elk discovered August 27, 2013, in northeastern New
Mexico.”
