A major 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Owen Fracture Zone region on October 2, 2013, at 01:06:44 UTC, at a depth of 41 km, reported Geoscience Australia.

139 major to great (6.0+) earthquakes hit various places over the last 246 days. Among these were 17 7.0+ and 2 8.1+ magnitude quakes.
