A major 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit near the coast of
Ecuador on May 18, 2016, at 16:46:43.5 UTC, at a depth of 30 km, reported
CSEM-EMSC.
This mighty quake hit near the coast after a 6.7 magnitude quake hit the same area only about nine hours earlier.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a Tsunami Information
Statement on May 18, 2016, at 1652 UTC.
612 major (6.0+) to super (8+) earthquakes hit various places
over the last 1,183 days. Among these were 77 7.0+
